As-salaam.
Most families have a Friday night special, be it meeting up
with friends; going out for supper or chilling at home after a long work week.
Friday night's in our home is movie night and my kids can choose the movie.
This past Friday we watched Kung Fu Panda 3, Po meets his biological father for the first time. A huge moment for him.

My family has a special connection to Kung Fu Panda, it’s
one of those movies that explains adoption easily. Our boys have been told their
own story, we found it important to explain to them that they are adopted at an
early age. By doing it this way we teach that love is unconditional.
They are very much loved by all. Hopefully, by being open
about their adoption, we are teaching them to be honest and they can come and
talk to us about anything.
How much information to give? What information in
relevant?
The honest answer is that is your choice, my husband and I
agreed that we would only answer the question that is asked. For example, Ebrahim
came home one day and asked why is that his hair is curly but his dad’s hair is
not.
We explained that his tummy mummy (birth Mom) had curly
hair that’s why his hair is not the same as his dad.
This was a good enough answer for him and he left to carry
on playing.
One day we hope to have the talk and I make dua that they
understand.
Until that day I am hoping they give me loads of grey
hairs or silver strands as they call it.
Next week’s topic …. My first silver strand.
“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to
you, as you are to them”. Desmond Tutu
